When there’s a need – someone will step forward, raise their hand and do whatever it takes to fill it. Sir Alec Isogonics not only had a vision or dream about this little magic wonder – he is credited for the original design of what is now called the “Classic Mini.” Several economical events took place that inspired Sir Alec and a few partners to put the “Mini” on the road. Three events took place; (1) A gas shortage due to the turmoil in the Suez area, (2) The UK found it necessary to implement fuel rationing, and (3) Large vehicles that were gas hogs lost their popularity overnight.

Sir Alec and his small team made several unique changes – the windows were sliding, leaving the area where the old wind knobs existed for pockets that could be used for storage. The luggage area, better know as the boot lid was hinged at the bottom that allowed it to remain open (allowing for more luggage).

Sir Alex knew that the construction of the “Mini” must be simplistic, easy design for the production line and the first Mini’s were rather crudely welded together leaving unsightly welding seams on the exterior. None of this seemed to affect the sale of the “Wee Autos” for sales skyrocketed in a very short time. The Mini not only filled the immediate economical need, its unique appearance and design was appealing to all who invested in this little wonder car.

So, follow the yellow brick road, like the many stars and affluent people from the United Kingdom and the United States – buy a Classic Mini and put a “wee tiger in your garage.”

You’re just in time to buy the newest “MINI” (MINI Clubman) featuring 2 new styles, the MINI Cooper Clubman and the MINI Cooper S Clubman. These ravishing wee autos should be on sale in February 2008.
